We’re addressing the elephant in the gig room: money.

Through The Snow Lake Performance Grant 2.0, both Snow Lake members & venues can submit confirmed events booked through Side Door’s NEW Artist Guarantee option for consideration for a micro-grant that will help off-set costs for both parties.

It’s pretty simple and here’s how it works!

VENUE

  1. Sign up to host a show through Side Door.

  2. Opt-in to offering a guarantee for the artist
(as opposed to offering solely ticket-sales).

  3. Select an artist to “host”.

  4. Confirm the details & get ready to announce the show publicly.

  5. Submit the confirmed show using the form below. (You can submit events up to six months in advance).

  6. Selected events will see a micro-infusion of cash to help promote the event & thank you for supporting the arts in Canada! Submit your advertising receipts to us for a reimbursement.

  7. We’ll let you know if your event was selected for the micro-grant, but either way, we’ll help promote the show through our socials.

ARTIST

  1. Sign up for The Snow Lake Initiative’s free membership.

  2. Submit the confirmed show using the form below. (You can submit events up to six months in advance).

  3. We’ll let you know if your event was selected for the micro-grant, but either way, we’ll help promote the show through our socials.

Why are we doing this?

We believe that some venues are intimidated by hiring artists. They don’t 100% know what fair pay is, if “beers” or “exposure” is appropriate to offer in lieu of payment or if they’ll even break even on a show. We also understand that artists have various obstacles which can sometimes result in under-cutting; sometimes accepting “beers” or “exposure” in lieu of payment which sends the wrong message to venues and hosts. Beer is tasty, yes. But beer is not accepted by landlords (yet) for rent. So we believe that by working with Side Door (who handles all of the financials and nitty-gritty in a very user-friendly & NON-intimidating platform) we can help remove obstacles for both the venue and the artist in a light-hearted way while educating both venue and artist what a reasonable, respectful & fair payment is for a show.
